What I learned during this project

This project made me aware of an important issue which our world is facing. This awareness raised my curiosity to know more information about this phenomenon.


I have learned what are the causes, affects and solutions for global warming. I have learned so many causes that would affect our planet and how to reduce their risks. On the other hand I’ve learned also what are the global warming affects on our world and how to defeat them.

Turning to my knowledge, I learned how to search about an information, how to find information and separate the good ones than the other ones. I learned how to make a space which called “Blog”. In my opinion, I think that the most important thing I’ve gained by this project is how to give opinion and how to summaries it in few words.

In conclusion, this project had raised my awareness to be such a positive person toward my world. It also made me think more and more to make three words that would describe our need to save the world which is “SOW” (save our world).

Individual Actions

As we all know that global warming causes and affects are many, so having just governments to solve this issue is not enough. All people should cooperate and we must have a positive reaction toward what happens around us. The reduction of CO2 is a must wither it is easy or not. There are many ways that individuals can reduce CO2 emissions and I’m going to mention several points.

Individuals in the UAE can do a lot to help their environment getting better and better b reducing CO2. For instance, some people can donate in a project which tries to educate people in how to organize and reduce the usage of electricity and water. The second action that people can use a bicycle or motorcycle instead of using the car to reach any place they want. That will definitely help to decrease CO2 in air. The last action is that individuals should have more and more plants in their houses and that will help reduce the amount of CO2 by releasing more oxygen into air.

UAE and Global Warming

The UAE is taking a good step and it is moving in the right track in trying to effective in solving the global warming issue. Raising awareness between Emiratis is the first positive step that the UAE took in this year. For instance, Abu Dhabi schools, with the help of the Environment Agency. Around 20 Government and Private Abu Dhabi schools switched off electricity power for 1 hour on that day in each place at the school, except administration offices. The second activity is that the Deputy Prime Minister and Board Chairman of the Environment Agency said that the Environment 2007 Exhibition and Conference is the most important event happened in Abu Dhabi. The Conference focused mainly on energy sources and the main environmental issues and how to make our technologies safer for the environment. His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan invited a Japanese delegation and they discussed the global warming issue and they pointed that a strategy to manage the current global warming trend. The Japanese delegation showed its full cooperation with our country and it is going to act positively with the UAE government trying to solve this problem.

Rising sea levels

Many scientists and experts warned us that the global warming will cause a dramatic rise in sea levels. Heat expansion has already raised the oceans 10 to 20 centimeters. But that's nothing compared to what would happen if, for example, Greenland's huge ice sheet melted. There is study at the University of Arizona in Tucson says that even with a small sea level rise, humans are going to destroy whole nations and their cultures that have lived on earth for thousands of years. This University’s students did a map that shows how coastal cities and island countries are going to be like when the sea rises at different levels. (The map picture is showen)

Effects of global warming

Many noticeable points indicate that global warming effects have already taken place during the past century. There are several effects that caused by global warming. The first effect is that the global average temperature will increase more and more. That is why we are suffering from heat increase in the world and especially in the Middle East. The second effect is that rising sea levels. When the heat rises up and the arctic ice melts, sea levels will rise and that will cause an increase in number of Floods on earth like what happened in some Asian countries in previous years. Yet another effect is that the oceans will have an increase in its temperature and that might lead to Elimination of fish and other sea animals.

Greenhouse effect

Turning to a specific cause of global warming which are the greenhouse gases that can make the atmosphere heats the earth when gases reflect toward earth. A natural greenhouse effect is created by the greenhouse gases. Joseph Fourier discovered the greenhouse effect in 1824. Without the increase in greenhouse gases temperatures on Earth would be an estimated 30 °C (54 °F) lower than what it is recently. Water vapor is one of the important greenhouse gases which causes about 36–70% of the greenhouse effect. Recently the concentration of CO2 in the atmospheric is about 383 parts per million and it is expected to rise in the future.

Causes

Nowadays the earth is facing a really important issue. Global warming is threatening human beings lives. There are many reasons for the global warming and I’m going to mention some of them now.

The first cause for the global warming is that the increase in Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and its famous gas “carbon dioxide”. There are many sources which produce carbon dioxide such as Power Plants, Cars, Trucks, Airplanes and Buildings structure. While carbon dioxide is the principal greenhouse gas, methane is second most important cause. CO2 which go into the atmosphere causes an increase in the atmosphere and the earth's surface heat. Another reason is that the increase Solar variation which made the earth warmer from 10 to 30% of the global surface temperature warming over the period 1980-2002.

What is Global Warming ?

In general the world is facing a lot of problems and actually we are not going to define each problem, but we have to define the important ones such as global warming. Global warming is the increase in the earth temperature. It is caused by the released gases that makes the earth atmosphere keeps the heat which come from the sun. This heat is gradually increased during the past century. Due to the observed increase in greenhouse gas concentrations which can lead the earth to be a warmer place. Burning fossil fuel is a major cause whereas car smokes and other pollution sources which are also important causes for that phenomena. In my opinion I think that global warming is a really important issue and it’s a warning for us to act positively toward our world.

My Profile

My name is Khalifa Ateeq Al Mazrouei. I was born in 1987. First I lived in Al Merfa. It is a village near Liwa oasis with it's green trees and blue fresh oasis water. By the age of ten, our family went to live in Abu Dhabi. After that I started to get used to living downtown. When I got used to the life in Abu Dhabi I started to join social events like horse riding, traditional dhow racing and other several types of social and traditional activities.

I’m the last in terms of birth order; I'm the youngest one in our family. In the past we used to be a big family because we lived with our grandparents, whereas nowadays we are a small family.

I have many interests in my free time such as, playing football, car racing, body building, surfing the net, swimming in swimming pools and reading interesting articles.


Nowadays, I’m a student in the Higher Colleges of Technology as a business student. I have such nice friends and colleagues. I’m intending to complete at least a Masters Degree in accounting and I’m going to take the CBA, the professional certificate in accounting.
